At about 11:00am CST on July 18, 2012 Texas District Judge Ruben Guerrero set a November 15, 2012 execution date for Preston Hughes, III.
I have not been able to confirm the report, but I have no reason to doubt it.
ADDENDUM (21 July 2012):
Having followed the instructions of the wizened commentor, I offer the following screenshot.
I also can independently confirm that Preston Hughes III has indeed been scheduled for execution on July 18, 2012. As usual, the Hughes execution is scheduled for any time after 6 PM that day. Typically, Texas wastes little time. The prisoner is usually declared dead by 6:20 PM.
The date does not yet appear on the Texas Department of Criminal Justice website.
The date does not yet appear on the Death Penalty Information Center website.
The date does not yet appear on the Amnesty International website.
ADDENDUM (24 July 2012):
Hughes' execution date now appears on the TDCJ website.
The date also appears on the Death Penalty Information Center website.
The date also appears on the Amnesty International website.

You have certainly proven conclusively that Preston Hughes is innocent and that he was framed by the police. My original analysis would stand only under the assumption that the police would not do such a thing -- given that Shandra actually accused "Preston", it would be very unlikely that he was innocent. Originally I simply assumed that the police would not make up a story like this.
Perhaps someone should start a petition for a law that the police must carry active audio and video recorders at all times while on duty, so that this cannot happen again in the future.

I hope and pray that innocence has to matter.
About the police, I have a hard time as well believing they would act in this manner but human beings are complex, and we get twisted up in our opinions, in laziness, and habit so that the consequences may not align with our intentions.
If you are reading this blog and believe Hughes is innocent, take some action, write, someone, tell what you think.
First Anon,
I don't know about the rest of the state, but in Austin (Travis County), police are supposed to have running video cameras all of the time. Even in this most liberal part of Texas, which I love, and am kind of proud of, police have issues all of the time.
Either their equipment is faulty, or things can be intentional. I can only imagine how crazy it is throughout the rest of Texas.
Patrick in Austin.
This execution date is documented on the Harris County Texas website.

8) Do a browser search (usually CTRL F) on "EXCTN DATE AFTER 6PM 111512". This entry means that the presicing judge issued an order to have Preston Hughts executed by the State of Texas after 6:00pm on November 15, 2012.
The execution date of the most likely innocent Preston Hughes III now appears on the TDCJ Website, and has also been noted by the forums Crime and Capital Punishment and Prison Talk Online.
